Nissan Motor India has officially launched a CNG variant of its Magnite compact SUV, expanding the vehicle’s powertrain lineup for the first time with a factory-approved CNG option. The retrofit CNG kit—available exclusively for the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine—will be offered at an additional cost of Rs 74,999.
The move follows a comprehensive update to the Magnite in October 2024, which included engineering changes to make the powertrain CNG-compatible. This launch marks Nissan’s entry into the CNG passenger vehicle segment under its own brand.
The on-road price range of the Magnite stands between Rs 7.43 lakh and Rs 14.36 lakh (Mumbai), with the CNG kit maintaining the standard 3-year or 1 lakh km warranty. Bookings for the Magnite CNG variant will commence on June 1, 2025, across seven states: Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Kerala, and Karnataka. Customers can place their orders at authorised Nissan dealerships in these regions.
The CNG option will be limited to the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine variant, which produces 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. The more powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged engine variant, which delivers 99 bhp and 160 Nm, will not be equipped with the CNG option.
Nissan has confirmed that existing Magnite owners—provided their vehicles are from the facelifted batch—can opt to install the new CNG kit as a retrofit. However, the company does not recommend CNG kit installation in pre-facelift models, citing engine modifications made specifically for CNG integration during the recent update.
While official fuel efficiency figures are expected soon, the company has disclosed limited boot space details. The updated Magnite with the 12-kg CNG cylinder is expected to accommodate one large suitcase along with a couple of smaller bags. However, the exact boot volume in litres has not been specified.
With this launch, Nissan becomes the latest automaker in India to enter the CNG space, a growing segment driven by rising fuel prices and consumer demand for economical alternatives.
