Kia India on Saturday introduced the Carens Clavis, a facelifted version of its seven-seat MPV, with prices ranging from Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 21.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Bookings opened on May 9 with a refundable token of Rs 25,000, a day after the Clavis was revealed on May 8. The Clavis will be marketed alongside the standard Carens, with the Clavis badge signaling an elevated feature set.

The model carries over the Carens’ K2 platform. Up front, a continuous light bar connects inverted L-shaped daytime running lamps, while triple-pod LED headlight units mirror the style of the Kia EV5. The lower bumper incorporates a faux-metal skid plate.

From the side, the Clavis retains the Carens’ profile but adds body cladding on doors and wheel arches for an SUV-like stance. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels and matte-finish door handles complete the exterior revamp. At the rear, a new LED light strip joins sharper tail lamps, and a roof-mounted spoiler projects from the redesigned hatch.

Inside, a dual-tone cabin hosts twin 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation. A capacitive panel under the center vents controls climate and audio functions. The top HTX+ trim offers captain seats in row two; lower variants use bench seating. Both 6- and 7-seat layouts are available. The dashboard integrates a wireless charger, Bose audio system, air purifier, panoramic sunroof, and co-driver “Boss” seat mode.

Level 2 driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and a 360-degree camera. Six airbags, anti-lock brakes, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and disc brakes on all wheels come standard.

Power comes from a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 160 hp and 253 Nm of torque, a 1.5-liter diesel with 116 hp and 250 Nm, and a 115 hp 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol unit. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, intelligent manual, seven-speed dual-clutch, and six-speed automatic. Fuel efficiency ranges from 15.34 kmpl with the base petrol to 19.54 kmpl in diesel manual guise, as per ARAI figures.

Variants include HTE, HTE (O), HTK, HTK+, HTX, and HTX+, each offered with select engine-gearbox combinations. The top HTX+ trim is available in both six- and seven-seat versions. Booking channels include Kia dealerships and the brand’s website, where customers can select colour, trim, and seating layout.

Kia India has positioned the Carens Clavis to compete against the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Mahindra Marazzo, aiming to capture buyers seeking technology-rich family transport.
