Toyota’s latest-generation Hilux has achieved a 5-star safety rating in the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) tests, following its recent introduction in New Zealand and Australia. The new model arrives with significant upgrades, including an all-electric Hilux variant, showcased as one of Toyota’s biggest highlights during its global debut.
Despite the top-tier rating, the new Hilux’s adult occupant protection score stands at 84%, lower than the 96% recorded by the previous-gen Hilux in 2019 — an 8% difference that longtime customers will notice.
2026 Toyota Hilux ANCAP Safety Scores
The new Hilux comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard safety features such as 7 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keeping assist.
According to ANCAP:
Adult Occupant Protection: 84%
Child Occupant Protection: 89%
Vulnerable Road User Protection: 82%

The 5-star rating applies to all 2025 Hilux Dual Cab and Single Cab Chassis variants with both 4WD and RWD drivetrains. However, the Hilux Rugged X is excluded, and safety ratings for the battery-electric version (Hilux BEV) are yet to be released.

Indian buyers eagerly waiting for the new Hilux may not have to wait long—the pickup is expected to arrive in January 2026. Its performance under the Bharat NCAP safety tests will be closely watched, along with Toyota’s plans regarding the electric Hilux’s introduction in the Indian market.
