Aurobindo Oncology Block inaugurated

Aurobindo Pharma Foundation funded Rs 80 cr and built the 2.32-lakh sq ft facility with 300 bed capacity

Hyderabad: Aurobindo Pharma Foundation (APF), the philanthropic arm of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, has funded Rs 80 crore and built state-of-the-art oncology block under corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Redhills, Hyderabad for MNJ Institute of Oncology and State Cancer Institute. This block was built in an effort to help the hospital in its endeavour to provide quality cancer care at free of cost.

The new block was inaugurated by Chief Guest State Health Minister Thaneeru Harish Rao and Guest of Honour Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday. On the occasion, K Nityananda Reddy, Director of APF and MD & Vice Chairman of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, said: “This is a major milestone in our journey as a health care organisation to provide proper medical care for underprivileged patients.”

“The successful completion and handing over of the new block to the Government of Telangana is a testament to our commitment to support infrastructure development in public health domain to aid needy communities. We are thankful to the State government for their support in making this vision a reality,” he added.

The APF has come forward to lend supporting hand and constructed a state-of-the-art oncology block on 2 acres of government land with Rs 80 crore fund of CSR. This new block will not only provide specialised and supportive services but also a research centre allowing reaching more patients in need with improved capacity and efficiency. The2.32 lakh sq ft facility is an eight floor building with a total bed capacity of 300, having high end features such as 30 wardrooms, two operation theatres, 12 consultation rooms, two radiology bunkers, 8 bone marrow transplant rooms, dedicated paediatric and adolescent ICUs, diagnostic rooms (CT scan), microbiology and chemistry labs, besides a proper kitchen and dining rooms.

Every year, around 14,000 new patients seek treatment, and the daily average of outpatients is expected to be 600. It is anticipated that the annual follow-up patient count for treatment will exceed 1.50 lakh patients. The existing facility has 450 beds, and this new facility will add 300 more beds, increasing the total capacity to 750.
