South Africa gets largest number of travellers from Europe, Germany and the US. India stands at sixth and Hyderabad is at third in India after Mumbai and Delhi

Hyderabad: The tourism marketing arm of the South Africa government, South African Tourism on Wednesday said that the country witnessed 50,000 travellers from India till November 2022. While India stands at sixth largest source market, Hyderabad is the third largest with 49 per cent of business travellers visiting the country.

The tourism wing of South Africa is holding its 19th edition of annual India roadshow in the key Indian metros from February 13 -16, showcasing offerings for Indian consumers and trade partners. Post Covid, around 30,000 travellers from India visited South Africa, which has reached 50,000 last year, till the month of November. By March 2023, South Africa Tourism is looking at receiving 59,000 Indian travellers.

“We are aiming to achieve an increase of 73 per cent in Indian travellers over the previous year’s target. Till date, 59 per cent of the bookings have been made. In near future, we are expecting India to be the fourth largest source market for our tourism. This can be achieved when direct flights from India are introduced, besides the six transit flights currently operating,” Hub Head of MEISEA, South African Tourism, Neliswa Nkani said.

South Africa gets largest number of travellers from Europe, Germany and the US. India stands at sixth and Hyderabad is at third in India after Mumbai and Delhi. “Hyderabad has a flourishing and thriving IT sector. We, hence, see business travellers from the city visiting South Africa for conferences, exhibitions and meetings,” Nkani adds.

She further said that the government has partnered with Ethiopian Airlines to maintain affordable airfare protecting travellers from the surge in fuel price. Speaking about safety, Nkani informed that policing has been increased at crime hotspots ensuring safety of the tourists and their citizens.
