The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released an updated list of acceptable documents for Aadhaar enrolment and updates, effective for the assessment year 2025–26. These guidelines are part of the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2025, and aim to simplify and streamline the verification process.
Key Aadhaar Rule
As per UIDAI, an individual is allowed to possess only one valid Aadhaar number. In cases of multiple Aadhaar IDs, only the first one issued using biometric details will remain active.
Updated List of Valid Documents for Aadhaar Services
✅ Proof of Identity (POI)
- PAN Card
- Voter ID
- Driving Licence
- Any Government-issued Photo ID
✅ Proof of Address (POA)
- Electricity or Water Bill
- Bank Passbook
- Ration Card
- Official Documents from Government Housing Schemes
✅ Proof of Date of Birth (DOB)
- Birth Certificate
- Passport
- SSLC Certificate
✅ Proof of Relationship (POR)
- Public Distribution System (PDS) Card
- MGNREGA Job Card
- Birth Certificate (with parent’s names listed)
- Aadhaar Enrolment for Children Under 5
- Children below five can be enrolled via the “Head of Family” method or by submitting their own supporting documents.
Steps to Update Aadhaar Online
- Visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- Login using Aadhaar number and OTP
- Verify your displayed identity and address details
- Confirm the accuracy of the information
- Select valid identity proof from the dropdown menu
- Upload POI document (JPEG, PNG, PDF, under 2 MB)
- Upload POA document (same file guidelines)
- Submit the request
Once submitted, the update request will be reviewed and processed by UIDAI.
