New GDP series to factor in GST, e-Vahan, household services

New Delhi: The new Gross Domestic Product (GDP) series, with base year 2022-23, will incorporate data from the goods and services tax (GST), the e-Vahan portal and household services provided by cooks, drivers and domestic helps to improve economic measurement. GDP data for the third quarter (October-December 2025) based on the new series will be released Friday.
According to a FAQ issued by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), base years are periodically revised to reflect structural changes in the economy. The national accounts base year is being updated from 2011-12 to 2022-23, a revision delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and GST rollout. Back series data is expected by December 2026.
