A formal petition urging KBS to assess BTS member Suga’s eligibility for future broadcast appearances following his DUI case has gained attention. Filed on June 23 through the KBS Viewer Petition Bulletin Board, the petition requests the network initiate a broadcast regulation review committee.

The petitioner cited public safety concerns, referencing Suga’s past incident involving intoxicated scooter driving. In September 2024, Suga was fined 15 million KRW (approximately $11,000 USD) after being found with a blood alcohol content exceeding 0.08%, a level at which a driver's license is typically revoked in South Korea.

The appeal emphasized that public figures, especially those with widespread influence over youth, should not be allowed to appear on national television without scrutiny after such incidents. The petitioner argued that KBS, as a public broadcaster, should act to uphold public trust by reviewing Suga’s case formally now that legal proceedings are complete.

“Drunk driving is a direct threat to public safety. Public figures must be held to account. KBS must demonstrate accountability by conducting a review,” the petition reads.

KBS has not yet responded publicly. Previously, the broadcaster has enforced temporary suspensions on individuals involved in similar incidents, including actor Kwak Do Won, the late Kim Sae Ron, and singer Kim Ho Joong.

Suga, who completed his mandatory military service on June 21, 2025, has not publicly addressed the petition. With his return, all BTS members have now finished their enlistment, and public interest remains high regarding the group’s future activities as a complete unit.
