Reality TV personality DEX is set to make his scripted acting debut in the upcoming South Korean thriller series "The Defects," scheduled to air July 21 on ENA and stream via TVING in Korea. In India, the series will be accessible through Amazon Prime Video's 'Channel K.'
DEX, known for his appearance in "Single’s Inferno," stars as Hyeon, a key accomplice in a clandestine child adoption operation. He works under the leadership of a prominent hospital director, played by Yum Jung Ah, who also heads a major foundation. Her character maintains a public-facing charity persona while running an illegal adoption ring behind closed doors.
Won Jin Ah joins the cast as Kim A Hyeon, a character who disrupts the system and exposes the network's dark operations. The drama explores the harsh realities of child abandonment and illegal adoption practices.
Supporting cast includes Choi Young Joon, Lee Na Eun and Ahn Ji Ho. Each plays a critical role in unraveling the web of corruption and moral conflict that drives the eight-episode series.
"The Defects" aims to spark discussion on sensitive issues related to child welfare and institutional abuse, distancing itself from conventional melodramas. The show is positioned as a gritty narrative without dramatic flair, focusing on systemic flaws.
Episodes will air weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays through August. Episode two is slated to release on July 22.
DEX’s role in "The Defects" follows his recent rise in popularity after appearing in "Adventure by Accident Season 2," which was filmed in India. His move from unscripted content to drama represents a shift in his career trajectory.
Channel K, the new Amazon Prime Video add-on, has also expanded its lineup to include new series such as "High School Return of a Gangster," "Undercover High School," "Crushology 101," "Family Matters" and "The Tale of Lady Ok."
