When Will Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ Stream on Amazon Prime Video?

Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest action film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, released in cinemas on Thursday to a strong start at the box office. The film, backed by Sun Pictures, features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj.

Industry analysts project the opening day collections could surpass Rs 200 crore, driven by high pre-release buzz and Rajinikanth’s wide fan base. The narrative follows a non-linear format, with flashback segments and digitally de-aged sequences of Rajinikanth drawing significant audience attention. The final 40 minutes have been widely discussed by early viewers, with performances from Nagarjuna, Upendra, and the cameo presence of Aamir Khan receiving notable appreciation.

Amazon Prime Video has purchased the digital streaming rights for Coolie at Rs 120 crore, matching the record set by Vijay’s Leo for the highest OTT deal in Tamil cinema. This agreement surpasses the Rs 110 crore paid for GOAT and the Rs 100 crore deal for Jailer. While Amazon is yet to confirm the streaming date, industry estimates suggest the film could arrive on the platform between mid-September and early October, depending on its theatrical run.

The streaming platform has consistently added Rajinikanth titles to its library in recent years, including Jailer, Vettaiyan, and classics such as Enthiran and Baasha. The addition of Coolie extends this trend, making Prime Video a key digital home for the actor’s works.

In addition to the OTT agreement, the satellite broadcast rights for Coolie remain with Sun TV. The television premiere date has not been announced.
