Pritish Nandy, the renowned journalist, poet, filmmaker, and former parliamentarian, passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 73 due to a cardiac arrest. While his death has been met with tributes from many of his close friends, not everyone shares the same sentiment, especially Neena Gupta, a veteran actress who has had a long-standing feud with Nandy.

In an emotional revelation, Neena Gupta recounted a shocking incident where Pritish Nandy allegedly 'stole' her daughter, Masaba Gupta's birth certificate, which led to her identity being exposed to the public. In a previous interview with journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, Neena had shared the painful experience of how Nandy went to great lengths to disclose Masaba's private information.

Neena Gupta, known for her bold and unapologetic approach to life, explained that the birth certificate, which was meant to remain private, was obtained by Nandy under false pretenses. She revealed that he sent someone to the registrar’s office, who pretended to be a family member and collected the certificate. Neena, who had been raising Masaba as a single mother, was deeply hurt by the invasion of her privacy. The certificate, which revealed Masaba's father, the West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards, was later published in a magazine, sparking media frenzy and public scrutiny.

In a candid moment, Neena described the event, saying, "He (Pritish Nandy) sent somebody to the registrar. When my bua went to collect it, they told her, 'Someone already took it.' Later, I found out it was Nandy who had orchestrated it. I called him a 'bastard' for doing that, and even put it on hoardings."

This incident, along with Nandy's actions, deeply affected Neena, who never shied away from expressing her anger. Her daughter, Masaba, who was labeled a "love child" due to being born out of wedlock, faced the consequences of this public revelation.

Years later, when news of Pritish Nandy’s passing broke, Neena Gupta made a bold statement on social media, stating: "Do you know what he did to me? He stole my baby's birth certificate and published it. So, no RIP for him, you understand? I have proof."

As Pritish Nandy’s death continues to stir mixed emotions, Neena Gupta’s refusal to offer a tribute to the late journalist highlights the personal grievances she continues to hold against him.
