What to Watch in January 2026: Stranger Things 5, Dhurandhar & More

January 2026 is going to be one of the most active months for the streaming industryto be affected positively, with global sagas concluding big chapters and Indian film industry moving quickly from cinema halls to online screens. Haq is a legal drama featuring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi, which is set against the backdrop of the legal conflict ignited by the Shah Bano case in the 1980s. The film follows a woman’s struggle for alimony and acknowledgement within the legal framework after a divorce. Although Netflix has not made a public announcement, it is believed by the industry that the film will be released in January digitally.

Land of Sin – Netflix

Available from: January 2

A missing teenage girl prompts an international crime investigation in this series. The deeper the investigation goes, the more the case reveals the ethical dilemmas and the risks involved in the life of the leading detective. The production fusion of classic and contemporary narrative styles is what characterizes this show.

MasterChef India Season 9 – SonyLIV

Streaming from: 5 January

The judges of the great cooking competition are Kunal Kapur, Ranveer Brar, and Vikas Khanna. The ninth season keeps the same format of skill tests, eliminating one by one and regional food challenges, uniting novice cooks and expert ones from all over India.

Freedom at Midnight Season 2 – SonyLIV

Streaming from: 9 January

The second season directed by Nikkhil Advani, goes past the Independence Day and looks at Partition's immediate aftermath. The drama sheds light on the displacement of refugees, political changes, and issues of governance in the early days. Sidhant Gupta portrays Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra plays Mahatma Gandhi and Rajendra Chawla is Sardar Patel.

Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web – Netflix

The crime thriller, Emraan Hashmi, stars as a customs officer who is engaged in a case against a great smuggling network. The series reveals difficulties in enforcing the law, power struggles within and how such struggles may affect investigations.

120 Bahadur – Prime Video

Streaming from: 19 January

The movie, 120 Bahadur which is about the Battle of Rezang La which took place during the 1962 India-China war, features Farhan Akhtar as Major Shaitan Singh Bhati. The film tells the story of Indian soldiers standing up to overwhelming odds. Its release on OTT follows a successful run at the box office.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – JioHotstar

Expected from: 19th January

This six-episode fantasy series bringing adaptations of George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas is set decades before Game of Thrones. The narrative maps out the pathways of Ser Duncan the Tall, along with his young follower, across the land of Westeros, providing a down-to-earth vision of the origin of the franchise's time.

Bridgerton Season 4 – Volume 1 – Netflix

Availability date: January 29

The fourth season turns its spotlight on Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. The plot introduces new characters and changes in society, and at the same time, the show does not stop unfolding its large stories set in London during the Regency era.

Dhurandhar – Netflix

The digital release is scheduled for January.

Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, considered one of the most successful Indian films of 2025, is set to come out digitally.
