Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2 struggles at the box office as Monday earnings dip sharply.

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s highly anticipated action thriller War 2 is witnessing mixed fortunes at the box office. After opening to average reviews, the film has been struggling to maintain momentum. On its first Monday (Day 5), War 2 collected ₹8.50 crore across all languages, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.
Box Office Journey So Far
The film’s total domestic collection has reached ₹183.25 crore after five days. While Sunday saw a strong boost with ₹32.15 crore (₹26.5 crore from Hindi), the Monday drop signals a struggle ahead. The Telugu version initially drove numbers but witnessed a sharp decline over the weekend.
On Independence Day (August 15), the Hindi version of War 2 recorded an impressive ₹44.5 crore, but collections fell to ₹26 crore on Saturday. Comparatively, Rajinikanth’s Coolie led advance bookings and continues to give tough competition at the ticket window.
Reception and Expectations
Despite emerging as the second-biggest Hindi opener of 2025 after Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, the film has faced heavy criticism online, with many calling it the “weakest entry” in YRF’s Spy Universe.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and mounted on a massive ₹400 crore budget, War 2 marks Jr NTR’s Hindi film debut and his first collaboration with Hrithik Roshan. The movie also stars Kiara Advani in a pivotal role.
As the box office battle between War 2 and Coolie intensifies, trade experts suggest both films have underperformed compared to sky-high expectations.
