Thudarum, Tharun Moorthy’s gripping revenge thriller starring Mohanlal and Shobana, continues to make waves at the box office. The film is on track to cross the ₹100 crore mark in India, making it Mohanlal’s second film of the year to reach this milestone, following the success of L2: Empuraan. The global collection has already surpassed ₹200 crore, placing Thudarum among an elite list of Malayalam films.
Domestic Box Office Collection
On its third Sunday, Thudarum earned ₹5 crore, showing a slight rise from Saturday’s ₹4 crore and Friday’s ₹3 crore collections. Throughout its second week, the film has consistently earned between ₹3 crore and ₹5 crore daily. Despite an opening day collection just above ₹5 crore, the film has steadily grown, reaching a peak of ₹6 crore to ₹11 crore in its first week.
As of today, the total domestic box office collection stands at ₹98.75 crore. With Monday’s earnings expected to continue the upward trend, the film is poised to cross ₹100 crore by the end of the day. The majority of the collections come from the Malayalam version, followed by the Tamil and Telugu-dubbed versions.
Global Box Office Collection
Thudarum has achieved yet another remarkable feat by becoming the third Malayalam film ever to earn ₹200 crore globally. Mohanlal shared the news on Twitter, expressing his gratitude to the audience. “Some journeys don’t need noise, just hearts to carry them forward. Thudarum has found its place in millions of hearts across the world, breaking all the box office records in Kerala. Gratitude for all the love,” he wrote. The other two films in this exclusive club are Manjummel Boys and Empuraan L2.
Theatre Occupancy
On Sunday, Thudarum saw the highest occupancy during evening shows, with 79.11%, followed by 73.83% for afternoon shows and 66.82% for night shows. The film continues to captivate audiences, maintaining strong interest even in its third week. It’s expected to surpass the domestic collection of Empuraan, which earned ₹105 crore across India, and is already the highest-grossing film in Kerala.
Mohanlal’s Resurgence
The combined success of Empuraan and Thudarum marks a strong comeback for Mohanlal after a period of slower box office performances. The films have reaffirmed his status as a leading figure in the industry, especially as fans remember his dominance with the Drishyam franchise.
Plot and Performances
In Thudarum, Mohanlal plays Shanmugham, a taxi driver with an unwavering attachment to his vehicle. When his prized black Ambassador car is stolen, he embarks on a journey to uncover his dark past. The film, directed by Tharun Moorthy, is praised for its gripping narrative and stellar performances. It marks the reunion of Mohanlal and Shobana, who previously starred together in Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded (2009).
The film has earned praise for its seamless blend of storytelling and technical brilliance, with particular acclaim for the performances of Mohanlal and Shobana. As noted in a review from Bizz Buzz, Thudarum ranks among the finest Indian revenge thrillers to date, offering an unparalleled cinematic experience.
