The Devil First Review: Censor Board Clears Darshan’s Action Drama With U/A 16+ Certificate
Darshan’s The Devil clears censor with U/A 16+ after minor edits; action-packed drama set for December 11 release with a 2h 49m runtime.
Darshan’s action-packed film The Devil receives U/A 16+ certification ahead of its theatrical release.

Kannada star Darshan’s much-awaited movie The Devil will be shown all over the world on December 11. This has very much to do with the fact that the film is coming out in theatres while the actor is in prison, and that he is involved in the murder of Renuka Swamy case, which in turn has increased public curiosity and has also helped the movie's pre-release buzz a lot.
The Devil, a film helmed by director Prakash and produced by Vaishno Studios and Jai Mata Combines, has Darshan playing a dynamic action character. Leading lady Rachana Rai is backed by a star-studded cast that also includes Mahesh Manjrekar, Achyuth Kumar, Sharmiela Mandre, Shobaraj and Tulasi Shivamani among others, who are also a part of the film.
Technical Team and Production
The film is shot by cinematographer Sudhakar S. Raj, with music composed by B. Ajaneesh Loknath. Blending action and drama, The Devil has been positioned as a large-scale mass entertainer.
Advance bookings opened recently, receiving a mixed yet promising response. Trade circles revealed that the film had already collected nearly ₹5 crore through pre-release business even before hitting theatres.
Censor Board Review: Objections and Changes
The censor certification process for The Devil was completed this week. Due to the film’s intense action sequences and certain dialogue portions, the board raised a few objections. Following the suggested edits and modifications, the film was granted clearance.
Producers confirmed that the Censor Board has now officially given the film a U/A (16+) certificate, meaning viewers aged 16 and above can watch the film without restrictions, while younger audiences must be accompanied by parents or guardians.
Run Time Revealed
The film’s runtime is notably long — 2 hours 49 minutes and 16 seconds (169 minutes 16 seconds). According to the makers, the extended duration is due to the demands of the storyline, character arcs, and elaborate action sequences.
Fans Anticipate a Major Release
Taking into consideration the present legal issues of Darshan along with the film's release in peculiar conditions, fans' expectations have greatly increased. There is a general opinion that the film is a very important release not only for the actor but also for the entire Kannada film industry.
