Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files collects ₹3.79 crore in two days but struggles against competition at the box office.

Vivek Agnihotri’s latest release, The Bengal Files, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar, continues to face a tough run at the box office. Despite the buzz before release, the film is struggling to draw audiences.
The Bengal Files Box Office Report
According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected ₹1.75 crore on its opening day (Sept 5) and managed ₹2.25 crore on Day 2 (Sept 6). This brings the two-day total to ₹3.79 crore.
On Day 2, the Hindi occupancy rate was around 29.91%, with the highest turnout during night shows (40.23%) and the lowest in morning shows (15.11%).
Poor Start Compared To The Kashmir Files
The collections of The Bengal Files pale in comparison to Agnihotri’s earlier hit The Kashmir Files (2022), which opened at ₹3.55 crore on Day 1 and went on to become one of the most successful political dramas in recent years.
Critical Reception
The film, which released on September 5, 2025, has received mostly poor reviews.
Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta rated it 2 stars, writing:
“It is no one’s case that turbulent history shouldn’t be examined cinematically. Art is nothing if it doesn’t provoke or challenge — but it is not art if it incites or inflames. It all comes down to the choices the film makes, in spotlighting certain events and blanking others.”
Star-Studded Cast, But Slow Momentum
The movie features a large ensemble including Simrat Kaur, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sourav Das, and Mohan Kapur. However, the presence of big names has not yet translated into strong box office numbers.
Outlook
With stiff competition from Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4, the road ahead looks challenging for The Bengal Files. The film will need strong word-of-mouth and weekday stability to gain momentum.
