Telangana’s government has granted approval for a paid premiere and ticket price hike for Hari Hara Veeramallu, starring actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, ahead of its July 24 release.

A special premiere show is scheduled on July 23 at 9 PM, with tickets priced at Rs 600 plus GST.

From July 24 to 27, theatres are permitted to run five shows daily, adding an extra Rs 200 in multiplexes and Rs 150 in single-screen cinemas (ex-GST)

From July 28 to August 2, the additional charges drop to Rs 150 in multiplexes and Rs106 in single-screens, while maintaining five daily shows.

These permissions came despite the government’s December 2024 ban on paid premieres and ticket hikes following the Pushpa 2 stampede that tragically claimed a life.

This abrupt policy reversal has ignited controversy, particularly since this isn’t the first time compliance was rolled back—similar relaxations were granted during Sankranti for Game Changer, before being rescinded after a High Court challenge

Context & Reactions

The state’s Home Department memo was circulated to district and police authorities, instructing enforcement at theatres.

In the assembly, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had previously pledged to end premiere privileges, citing concerns after the Pushpa 2 incident.

Game Changer had received similar exemptions in January, but they were withdrawn following a legal petition.
