Singapore Firm Joins Indian Companies in Declaring Holiday for Rajinikanth’s Coolie
A Singapore company joins Indian firms in declaring holidays for the release of Rajinikanth’s Coolie, offering tickets and allowances as the film gears up for a global release on August 14.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie sparks ‘holiday fever’ as companies in India and Singapore give time off for first-day screenings.

The Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie is proving to be more than just a film release—it’s becoming a celebration. Following several Indian companies, a Singapore-based firm has now announced a paid holiday for its Tamil employees on August 14, the day the film hits theatres.
Farmer Constructions PTE Ltd will not only grant leave but also provide first-day-first-show tickets and a $30 Singapore dollar allowance for food and beverages. The company has described this gesture as part of its “workers’ welfare and stress management” initiative. The move has gone viral online, winning praise from Rajinikanth fans worldwide.
Businesses Adjust for ‘Coolie Fever’
In Singapore, retail firm SB MART will shut down between 7:00 am and 11:30 am on release day, resuming operations later in the morning. In Tamil Nadu, a Madurai-based company has declared a full-day holiday for all its branches to avoid a flood of last-minute leave requests. The firm also plans to mark the occasion as a “festival of 50 years of Rajinism” by distributing food to orphanages, old-age homes, and sweets to the public.
Box Office Buzz and Certification Concerns
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan. The trailer release has sent ticket sales soaring, with the film setting a record for the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film. Reports indicate it will release in over 100 countries.
However, the film’s ‘A’ certification by the Censor Board has sparked debate, as it may limit viewership among Rajinikanth’s traditional family audience. Despite this, industry analysts predict massive box office numbers, even as Coolie faces a direct clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2.
