Shah Rukh Khan Asked to Introduce Himself at Met Gala Debut, Prompting Fan Reaction

Indian popular actor Shah Rukh Khan Met Gala debut blue carpet on Tuesday (May 6 2025 India time) in New York, dazzling in an all-black Sabyasachi outfit. It was an historic moment because Khan was his first Indian male to perform at the Met, along with Diljit Dosanjh.

While the entire world tuned in to Khan's iconic debut, a portion of the western press that covered the event live was to be unaware of his international fame and one reporter even wanting to know his name. On one of videos that went viral after the occasion, SRK is heard introducing himself to reporters. He says, "I'm Shah Rukh."

One of the most renowned stars of Indian film, Shah Rukh Khan in New York is the fourth most successful actor worldwide according to a recent listing by Esquire Magazine. Khan's films have crossed borders and have left a lasting impression on the world of popular culture. In this regard, people of social networks were angered by a section of the media that covered the MET. The words "clueless" or "disrespectful' were used in comments decrying the way in which people treated Khan. This incident is reminiscent from tennis legend Maria Sharapova once saying she didn't know who Sachin Tendulkar was.

In addition to Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Priyanka Chopra Jonas Kiara Advani, and designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee of India were among the guests on through the carpet in blue at Met Gala 2025.

The Met Gala is dubbed one of the fashion's most glittering nights which is held each year every year on the 1st Tuesday (ET) in May. It's an annual fundraiser in support of the Metropolitan Museum Arts' Costume Institute.

The Institute's spring exhibition, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," was the main theme of the night, which highlighted the sartorial heritage that is Black Dandyism.
