The new military drama of Farhan Akhtar, 120 Bahadur, has made Rs 9.60 crores in the Indian box office during its opening weekend as per the industry estimates. The film had a significant rise in business on Sunday which was the major contributor to the weekend overall total.
The paid previews before the official release earned Rs 10 lakh which is a negligible addition to the first-day collections. The release on Friday yielded about Rs 2 crores, then Rs 3.5 crores on Saturday. Sunday was the day with the highest intake of around Rs 4 crore, which is a day-on-day rise of 15%.
However, the fluctuation in the film has not been liked by the audience in the mixed reviews, which may impact the film's pace in the days to come. Analysts indicate that a powerful performance during the weekdays and growth over the next weekend will be significant for 120 Bahadur to be pronounced as a box office hit.
Razneesh Ghai is the director of the movie, which had a very tough competition with releases namely Mastiii 4 and Gustaakh Ishq. The people from the industry will be watching its performance on Monday and the Tuesday surge very closely as it might be affected by the discounted ticket prices. Starting next weekend, the movie will be competing with Tere Ishk Mein, which has currently generated more pre-release buzz. How it fares against the Dhanush and Kriti Sanon starrer will be a strong indicator of its long-term performance.
Military-oriented movies have usually had moderate commercial results in the past. The 2016 surgical strike-related strong curiosity factor was one of the main reasons that URI: The Surgical Strike was a big exception.
