Yash Raj Films has entered the final scripting phase for Dhoom 4, the next chapter in its high-octane action lineup. Studio head Aditya Chopra and screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan are collaborating on a story draft intended to exceed fan expectations for a reboot of the franchise, according to an industry insider.

Launched in 2004, Dhoom introduced mainstream Bollywood to slick chases, stylized stunt work and charismatic antagonists. Its blend of high-speed motorcycle sequences and international locations redefined action cinema in India. Now, producer Chopra has tasked Raghavan with crafting a screenplay that matches global action standards while preserving the franchise’s trademark energy.

“Chopra has been hands-on with every draft, ensuring the screenplay lives up to the Dhoom brand,” the source said. “They want a narrative that feels fresh but still delivers the rider-versus-thief dynamics audiences love.”

Ranbir Kapoor has been tapped as the lead for Dhoom 4. Kapoor, who rises to prominence with diverse roles across genres, is said to be fully on board.

“Ranbir fits the bill perfectly,” the insider added. “His persona shapes how they envision this character. The goal is a sleek, global action thriller that won’t overlap with the YRF Spy Universe in tone or style.”

Ayan Mukerji, best known for his work on fantasy and coming-of-age films, is in talks to direct. If agreements are finalized, production is slated to begin in April 2026.

Kapoor’s schedule already includes several major projects. He will star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama Love & War, featuring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Under Bhansali’s direction, the film is expected to recreate a bygone era with period-accurate sets and a sweeping narrative arc.

Later this year, Kapoor will portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana Part 1, co-starring Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Filming is nearly complete, with just a handful of sequences pending. Its sequel, Ramayana Part 2, is on track to begin shooting in mid-2025, extending the saga’s scope.

Dhoom 4 promises a shift to a sleek visual palette and tighter storytelling, distancing itself from prior installments. Industry analysts note that Yash Raj Films is keen to position the reboot as a tentpole international action franchise, capitalizing on streaming tie-ins and overseas box-office potential.

Following Dhoom 4, Kapoor is also attached to Animal Park, a sequel to the 2023 hit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Early buzz suggests the film will further explore complex character arcs established in the original.
