Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude Review: Fans Call First Half Superb, Second Half Average

Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest Tamil film Dude has hit theatres to a mixed reception from audiences, with many calling it a “very Pradeep Ranganathan-style” movie that shines in its first half but falters later.
Social media reactions poured in soon after the film’s release on Friday, with viewers divided over its tone and storytelling.
“A very Pradeep Ranganathan-coded film. The hidden conflict was a great strategic move. The first and second halves sit on completely opposite sides of the spectrum. Though predictable at times, it’s more than watchable,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Another user echoed similar thoughts, saying,
“Superb first half followed by an okayish second half. The message is new but practically not possible and may not connect with everyone. Still, it’s an above-average entertainer.”
However, not everyone was impressed. A few users criticised the screenplay and logic, calling the story “cringe and predictable.”
“First half was okayish, but the second half had a stupid concept. Pradeep Ranganathan should stop playing the same sympathy character. Sarath is good, Mamitha Baiju is decent, but the story is logicless,” one viewer commented.
Despite the mixed opinions, several fans praised the cast’s performances and Sai Abhyankkar’s music.
“Just finished the first half. Great acting, especially Mamitha. Didn’t expect the movie to go this way after the trailer — but I liked it. Sets up for an interesting second half,” a fan wrote.
Another called it a laugh riot:
“Just go watch Dude in theatres. ROFL guaranteed! After a long time, I laughed so hard. Loved it! Kudos to the team.”
While some felt Dude lacked an emotional connection, others appreciated its entertainment value and the performances of R. Sarathkumar and Mamitha Baiju.
Directed by Keerthiswaran, Dude was previously titled PR04 and features music by Sai Abhyankkar. The film stars Pradeep Ranganathan, Mamitha Baiju, R. Sarathkumar, Hridhu Haroon, and Rohin in key roles. It also marks Mythri Movie Makers’ second Tamil venture after Good Bad Ugly starring Ajith Kumar.
