The action-thriller of Pawan Kalyan They Call Him OG is coming to Netflix on Thursday, October 23, just a month after the film’s release date at the theatre on September 25. Despite having a strong advance booking and being highly anticipated by the audience, the movie turned out to be one of the highest-grossing Telugu releases of the year.
The movie was said to have made over Rs 337 crore worldwide during the first week alone, setting the record for the biggest opening for Pawan Kalyan. Even though the movie was successful financially, the critics’ reviews were rather mixed. Some praised the movie for its technical excellence while others considered the plot boring and predictable.
Kalyan is cast as Ojas Gambheera, and Emraan Hashmi is the antagonist Omi Bhau. Priyanka Arul Mohan has the role of the protagonist’s wife Kanmani. Other actors in supporting roles include Neha Shetty, Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy, and Prakash Raj. The film was directed by Sujeeth and was produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under the banner of DVV Entertainments.
Reactions on social media have shown the divide in opinions among the viewers. A review on X called the movie “technically brilliant and visually engaging,” while an alternate user commented that Pawan Kalyan’s frequent appearances were exciting for the fans but not for others with more profound emotional needs.
Netflix streamed the film rights at a substantially high price before the theatrical release, showing their strong belief in the future digital viewer base. The people who could not watch the screening at the theatres will now have the chance to see it at home.
The film was reportedly produced with a budget of Rs 250 crore. Box office tracking tool, Koimoi estimates the net collection in India to be Rs 190.1 crore for all languages combined. The gross revenue, after adjustments for GST, is approximately Rs 224.31 crore, which is considered a moderate return when compared to the initial expectations.
