Actor Pawan Kalyan announced that the world of his latest film, They Call Him OG, will continue with both a sequel and a prequel. The revelation came during a success meet held after the film completed its first week at the box office, crossing the Rs 160-crore mark domestically.
Kalyan attributed the decision to the strong audience response and the film’s commercial performance. “Developing a story is one task, translating it on screen is entirely different. Initially, I did not have the complete story of OG. It was only when I saw my son reading the story notes with excitement that I realized its relevance to today’s generation,” he said during the event.
The actor recalled discussions with directors Trivikram Srinivas and Sujeeth, the latter of whom shared the concept: Kalyan as a gangster in Japanese-inspired attire, armed with a sword and a gun. “At first, I didn’t grasp the full concept, but seeing the response around me made it clear that this story connects with viewers across ages,” he added.
The success meet highlighted the film’s strong opening week, prompting Kalyan to publicly share his plans for expanding the OG universe. He emphasized the motivational impact the project had on him after earlier setbacks in filmmaking. “I understand the frustration when a film does not succeed, but OG has reignited my drive to create. I intend to continue this narrative through a prequel and a sequel, balancing it with my responsibilities as Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh,” Kalyan said.
Directed by Sujeeth, They Call Him OG portrays Kalyan as a former gangster returning to Mumbai to confront a new adversary. The film also marks Emraan Hashmi’s debut in Telugu cinema and features Priyanka Mohan, Sriya Reddy, Arjun Das, and Prakash Raj in supporting roles.
