The digital premiere of the Tamil-language comedy-drama "Tourist Family" has been officially postponed, contrary to earlier expectations of a late May release. The film, which has been playing in theatres since May 1, will now reportedly be available for streaming on Jio Hotstar starting June 6, 2025.
Film industry analyst Christopher Kanagaraj confirmed the updated release date on social media. Though initially anticipated to arrive on OTT platforms on May 28 or May 31, there has been no formal statement from the production house explaining the delay in digital distribution.
Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the film is set to go live on the OTT platform at midnight on June 6, providing nationwide access to viewers keen to watch the hit family-themed film from home.
Directed by debutant Abishan Jeevinth, "Tourist Family" features Sasikumar and Simran in lead roles, supported by Mithun Jai Sankar, Kamalesh, Yogi Babu, MS Bhaskar, and Ramesh Thilak. The film marks Jeevinth's first directorial venture and has been widely received in cinemas.
Produced by Nazerath Pasilian, Magesh Raj Pasilian, and Yuvaraj Ganesan, the movie has gained momentum at the box office. According to Sacnilk, a leading industry tracking portal, the movie has grossed approximately ₹75.51 crore worldwide within 19 days of its release, ranking it among the top five highest-earning Tamil films of the year. Other films in this category include "Vidaamuyarchi," "Dragon," "Good Bad Ugly," and "Retro."
The storyline centers around a Tamil family grappling with survival during Sri Lanka’s economic turmoil. This socio-economic theme has resonated with audiences, contributing to the film's commercial and critical performance.
