A long-awaited update on Kalki 2, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed Kalki 2898 AD, has finally been released by director Nag Ashwin. The June 2024 release of the sci-fi mythological extravaganza, which starred Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, brought in close to ₹1,050 crore globally, making it one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema history.

Nag Ashwin recently stated on a podcast that the sequel is anticipated to begin production by the end of 2025. He acknowledged, though, that a number of obstacles might affect the schedule.

"The actors must unite. A few of the action and pre-visualized scenes are considerably larger. Thus, it will require some time. I can't give you a precise response. "Everyone is busy," Ashwin clarified.

The director also made a suggestion that the longest stage would be post-production. He hinted that fans might have to wait until 2027 to see the grand sequel play out on screen when he said, "Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that's what I think."

In addition to Prabhas and Deepika, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan played important roles in Kalki 2898 AD. Santhosh Narayanan composed the film's music, and seasoned producer Ashwini Dutt supported the ambitious endeavour.

Considering how much anticipation Kalki 2 has already generated, industry observers think the follow-up will further push the limits of Indian cinema.
