Meet the New Faces of Hogwarts: HBO's Harry Potter Series Unveils Cast

Harry Potter fans have much to celebrate.

Variety reports that HBO Originals has announced the first cast of actors who will be bringing some of J.K. Rowling’s most loved Hogwarts character to life in a new web series.

John Lithgow is a veteran actor who has starred in The Crown and Conclave. He will play Albus Dumbledore, the kind and wise Hogwarts Headmaster. Janet McTeer, Academy Award nominee and star of Tumbleweeds and The White Queen fame, will play Professor Minerva McGonagall.

HBO chose Paapa Essiedu to play Professor Severus snape. He'll play Rubeus Hagrid the cherished half giant groundskeeper.

Also included in the announcement were details on Harry Potter Cast Hogwarts employees. Luke Thallon is known for his work on stage in Patriots and Leopoldstadt. He will play Professor Quirinus Quirrell. British actor and comedian Paul Whitehouse, who has appeared in Leopoldstadt, will portray Argus, the castle's grumpy keeper.
