Ashwin Kumar’s mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office. Made on an estimated budget of ₹15 crore, the film has now raked in ₹132.25 crore worldwide, and is fast approaching the ₹150 crore mark globally—a remarkable feat for an Indian animated feature.
After a strong performance in North America, the film is set to release in Australia and New Zealand starting Thursday, August 7, with more screens being added to meet growing demand.
“The divine roar echoes across the world… Mahavatar Narsimha is arriving in Australia & New Zealand, igniting the screens from August 7,” tweeted Hombale Films, along with a list of cinemas screening the movie.
The makers also confirmed that the film’s screening footprint in North America will be expanded from August 8, with additional shows planned across more locations.
Global and Domestic Box Office Update
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Mahavatar Narsimha has:
- Collected ₹5.15 crore overseas so far through limited screenings
- Grossed ₹127.1 crore in India across languages
- Taken its total worldwide earnings to ₹132.25 crore by Day 13
- The Indian gross includes ₹6 crore collected on Wednesday (August 6) alone, thanks to discounted ticket prices.
- In the U.S., distributor Prathyangira Cinemas reported the film has crossed $400,000 in gross collections.
Multilingual Appeal
Originally a Kannada production, the film has been released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam in India and Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu in overseas markets. Its devotional and cultural themes have struck a chord with audiences across linguistic and regional boundaries.
Industry Reactions
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel hailed Mahavatar Narsimha’s success as a “historic moment” for Indian cinema.
“Crossing the ₹100 crore mark is a big achievement for Indian animation,” he tweeted. “India has a treasure trove of mythological stories. This success should motivate filmmakers to explore the genre further.”
He added that the film's triumph proves India has the potential to create animated epics on par with Hollywood’s billion-dollar blockbusters.
