As the first Indian animated film to surpass the ₹300-crore milestone at the worldwide box office, Ashwin Kumar's mythological animated drama Mahavatar Narsimha has made history. According to trade reports published on Monday, the film, which is produced by Hombale Films and Kleem Productions, accomplished the feat on its thirty-first day in theaters.

Alongside high-profile live-action releases like Chhaava, Saiyaara, Coolie, and War 2, Mahavatar Narsimha is the fifth Indian film overall to surpass the ₹300-crore mark in 2025.

Journey at the Box Office

Mahavatar Narsimha started off with a modest ₹1.75 crore nett on day one, but it grew steadily thanks to strong word-of-mouth. The movie made ₹44.75 crore in its first week, ₹73.4 crore in its second, and ₹70.2 crore in its third.

Despite having fewer screens due to the August 14 release of War 2 and Coolie, the animated movie still made ₹30.4 crore nett in its fourth week. It recovered even more over the fifth weekend, earning ₹13 crore, bringing its total domestic earnings to ₹231.75 crore nett.

Plans for Future Franchises

An ambitious animated series based on Lord Vishnu's ten avatars begins with Mahavatar Narsimha. With plans to continue until 2037, sequels are already in the works.

With its milestone success, the film not only sets a new benchmark for animated cinema in India but also highlights the growing acceptance of mythological storytelling in the animated format.
