Chapter 1: Chandra, which stars Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, is still doing well at the box office. The superhero drama, which debuted on August 28, 2025, has become one of the most popular female-led films in South Indian cinema.
Day 6 Box Office Collection for Lokah
Early estimates from Sacnilk indicate that the movie made ₹39.25 crore net and ₹45.75 crore gross in India in just six days. The global total now stands at 93.75 crore after an outstanding ₹48 crore was collected overseas. In the upcoming days, the movie is anticipated to surpass the ₹100 crore milestone.
Breaking Records
Thanks to these figures, Lokah Chapter 1 is now the highest-grossing female-led South Indian film ever, surpassing both Anushka Shetty's Rudhramadevi (₹86 crore, 2015) and Keerthy Suresh's Mahanati (₹83 crore, 2018).
Following only Mohanlal's L2 Empuraan (₹265 crore) and Thudarum (₹234 crore), the film is also one of the top Malayalam releases of 2025. Analysts warn that it might be challenging to meet those standards.
Concerning the Movie
The movie tells the tale of Chandra (Kalyani Priyadarshan), a yakshi (vampire) who is called to Bengaluru from Sweden by the Moothon (voiced by Mammootty). Sunny (Naslen), her neighbour, falls in love with her but ends up in unanticipated trouble. Officer Nachiyappa (Sandy), meanwhile, is committed to thwarting Chandra's mission.
The Malayalam-Telugu bilingual, which is produced by Dulquer Salmaan, is scheduled to be released in Hindi on September 4, 2025, which should increase its box office receipts even more.
Despite positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, the film has faced criticism in Karnataka for misogynistic dialogue and its depiction of Bengaluru. The makers have since issued an apology and removed the controversial dialogue.
