Netflix has a new record-breaker! The animated fantasy film KPop Demon Hunters has officially dethroned Squid Game as the platform’s most-watched title ever. According to Netflix Tudum’s latest data, the film has amassed 266 million views within just 74 days of release, overtaking the Korean survival drama that held the crown for nearly four years.

KPop Demon Hunters Beats Squid Game’s Record

Released on June 20, 2025, the film directed by Maggie Kang achieved the milestone on September 3, cementing itself as the most-viewed Netflix content worldwide.

For context, Squid Game season 1 premiered on September 17, 2021, and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, holding the top spot ever since. Now, KPop Demon Hunters has rewritten history, highlighting the global rise of K-pop-inspired entertainment.

What is KPop Demon Hunters About?

The English-language animated film follows Rumi, a half-demon, half-demon hunter, who leads her girl group HUNTRIX. While striving to dominate the K-pop stage, they also protect Earth’s protective barrier — the honmoon — from demons feeding on human energy.

The twist comes with the Saja Boys, a rival K-pop boy band secretly made up of demons. Their mission? To steal HUNTRIX’s fanbase — the very source of the group’s strength.

Previous Milestones and Future Plans

Before surpassing Squid Game, KPop Demon Hunters had already broken records by overtaking Red Notice as Netflix’s most-watched film.

The franchise has expanded with a sing-along theatrical release that performed strongly at the box office, later made available on Netflix. Reports suggest that a sequel is currently being discussed between Netflix and Sony Pictures, with even a live-action adaptation rumored to be in the works.
