Kingdom Movie on OTT ★ Release Date, Cast, Languages & Controversy Explained

Vijay Deverakonda’s spy action drama Kingdom will premiere on Netflix on August 27, streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. The OTT debut coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi, less than a month after its theatrical release on July 31.
Netflix India confirmed the date with the caption: “In the kingdom of gold, blood and fire… a new king rises from the ashes.” The film’s Hindi version is titled Saamrajya due to title rights issues. Sithara Entertainments, the production house, also announced the multi-language release.
Interestingly, the OTT reveal came on two significant dates in Vijay Deverakonda’s career — the 8th anniversary of his cult hit Arjun Reddy and the 3rd anniversary of his much-criticized Liger.
About the Film → Plot and Cast
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Kingdom follows Suri (Vijay Deverakonda), a constable-turned-spy on a dangerous mission to Sri Lanka in search of his missing brother Siva (Satyadev). Along the way, he clashes with cartel heir Murugan (Venkitesh) and finds support from Dr. Madhu (Bhagyashri Borse), who develops feelings for him.
The film opened with high expectations but received mixed reviews, earning ★ ₹82.02 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. The story concludes on a cliffhanger, paving the way for a sequel.
Controversy in Tamil Nadu
Kingdom sparked protests by Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) cadres, who accused the film of misrepresenting Sri Lankan Tamils. Demonstrators in Tiruchy tore posters and disrupted screenings, demanding a ban. The Madras High Court later recorded assurances from Tamil Nadu police to provide theatre security if required.
