Kim Soo Hyun fan union takes legal action over defamation in ongoing dating scandal

South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun’s fan community has officially announced legal action against individuals spreading false and harmful rumours about the actor, as controversy continues surrounding his alleged relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-Ron.

On April 22, the Kim Soo Hyun Fan Union — which includes Daum Cafe Eucharis and DC Inside’s Kim Soo Hyun Gallery — issued a joint statement confirming their decision to pursue legal complaints against online users responsible for defamatory and malicious content about the actor. This initiative marks a combined effort from both domestic and international fans, uniting in support of Kim.

Legal Complaint to Be Filed This Week

According to Allkpop, attorney Yang Tae-Young, representing the fan union, revealed that a criminal complaint will be filed this week at Seoul Seongbuk Police Station under Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act.

The fan union stated:

"There has been a continuous spread of malicious rumours and defamation targeting Kim Soo Hyun through online communities and social media platforms. We are moving forward with legal action to address this issue."

Fans Gather Evidence, Stand Firm

The union also disclosed that it had gathered substantial evidence, including malicious comments, manipulated images, and fabricated posts, which have been circulating for months. Emphasizing the importance of protecting the actor’s rights and maintaining a healthy fan culture, the union made it clear they would show no tolerance for personal attacks or defamatory content disguised as free expression.

"No leniency will be shown," the union declared.

Agency and Actor Respond

This move follows the action taken by Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, which filed a legal complaint on April 15 against groundless speculation and defamatory content damaging the actor’s reputation.

Adding to the legal battle, Kim Soo Hyun himself recently filed a 12 billion KRW lawsuit against the late actress Kim Sae-Ron’s aunt, her family, and the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (HoverLab). The lawsuit claims these parties spread false information, leaked private photos, and shared handwritten letters, alleging the actor was involved in an inappropriate relationship with Sae-Ron, which began when she was 15 and lasted six years. The scandal further escalated after Sae-Ron’s DUI incident and subsequent tragic death.

The controversy, which first surfaced on March 10, continues to attract widespread attention.
