Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan, may have started on a slow note, but it managed to gather momentum by the end of day one. The historical courtroom drama, which hit theatres on April 18, saw a significant boost in evening and night shows—thanks to positive word-of-mouth and solid overseas numbers.

Despite a lukewarm start during morning screenings, the film earned a respectable ₹15 crore worldwide on its opening day. According to data from Sacnilk, the film collected ₹7.75 crore net (₹9.25 crore gross) in India, while its international earnings stood at ₹5.75 crore.

This opening puts Kesari Chapter 2 ahead of Sunny Deol’s mass action flick Jaat, which debuted last week with ₹13.50 crore globally. However, the film still trails behind Akshay Kumar’s earlier release Sky Force, which made a stronger start with over ₹20 crore on day one in January.

Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, the film’s fortunes turned around by the evening, buoyed by glowing reviews from critics and fans alike. Show occupancy jumped from 12–13% in the morning to nearly 28% by the night. The positive trend has raised hopes for a stronger performance over the weekend.

About Kesari Chapter 2

Titled Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, the film features Akshay Kumar as C. Sankaran Nair, the courageous lawyer who fought to uncover the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. R. Madhavan plays Advocate Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday portrays Dilreet Gill.

The film marks the directorial debut of Karan Singh Tyagi and is produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films. With rising occupancy and strong early reactions, the film looks set to build on its opening with improved collections over the weekend.
