Kangana Ranaut’s production house and Netflix face lawsuit over ‘Emergency’ film

Actor Kangana Ranaut’s film company, Manikarnika Films Pvt Ltd, and streaming giant Netflix have been sued by veteran journalist and author Coomi Kapoor for alleged breach of contract and defamation.
Kapoor, the author of The Emergency: A Personal History, claims the upcoming film Emergency, directed and co-produced by Ranaut, is based on her book but has misrepresented historical facts, thereby damaging her reputation. The film features Kangana Ranaut in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The legal action comes after Kapoor reportedly received no reply to the notices she sent to both Manikarnika Films and Netflix on April 3. In her notice, she alleged that the filmmakers and platform failed to honor contractual agreements linked to the adaptation of her work.
The controversy has added to the anticipation around Emergency, which is already a high-profile project for both Ranaut and Netflix.
