Kalyani Priyadarshan Becomes First Malayalam Actress to Enter ₹200 Crore Club With Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra

Another landmark was achieved by a woman in the realm of cinema in Kerala; the feat managed to be crossed by actor Kalyani Priyadarshan, who made history as the first Malayalam actress to cross an all-time ₹200 crore mark at the global box office with Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra. The film was directed by Dominic Arun and starred her as the country's first female superhero, rendering this honor a historic one indeed.

Lokah: Chapter 1–Chandra Enters the ₹200 Crore Club

Having arrived into theatres on August 28, the film has done business amounting to ₹202 crore all across the globe, in only 13 days. This places Lokah into the league of some of the recent Malayalam blockbusters like L2 Empuraan by Mohanlal (₹265.5 crore), Thudarum (₹234.5 crore), and Manjummel Boys (₹240.5 crore).

In the past, with very few exceptions, Malayalam filmmaking has rarely witnessed films carrying the banner of female leads. Hence, Lokah's monster run should be considered a landmark event.

Dulquer Salmaan Credits Writing and Vision

Dulquer Salmaan has produced and released the film under Wayfarer Films and appreciated Santhy Balachandran for writing and representing an empowered woman superhero. He said all credit goes to Santhy B if there is a lady superhero or superstar today and if we represented her correctly. He celebrated this milestone as the film crossed ₹100 crore mark earlier.

On Wednesday, Wayfarer Films officially confirmed that Lokah had touched ₹202 crore.

Star-Studded Cast and Cameos

The film has, besides Kalyani, Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Nishanth Sagar, Raghunath Paleri, Vijayaraghavan, Nithya Shri, and Sarath Sabha. It also has cameo appearances from Dulquer Salmaan, Tovino Thomas, Soubin Shahir, and Anna Ben, whereas Mammootty lends his voice for an important character.
