Hollywood’s latest sci-fi spectacle, Jurassic World: Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson, has made a powerful debut in India with an impressive ₹9.50 crore on its opening day.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film hit theatres with high anticipation, becoming the highest opener in the Jurassic World franchise in India. It surpassed the opening day collection of 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, which had earned ₹8.15 crore (excluding paid previews).
Despite facing competition from Hindi release Metro…In Dino, Jurassic World: Rebirth benefited from the strong brand recall of the franchise and Johansson’s star power. The film also features Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein in key roles.
Projected Weekend and Global Outlook
The film has been well received by both critics and audiences, with strong word-of-mouth expected to push its weekend collection past ₹35 crore at the Indian box office.
Globally, Jurassic World: Rebirth has raked in USD 56.5 million so far. The five-day opening weekend projection stands between USD 255 million to USD 280 million, although the final numbers will depend on its weekend performance.
Interestingly, the movie was not released in IMAX theatres, reportedly due to a missed booking deadline set a year in advance.
A New Chapter in the Jurassic Saga
Jurassic World: Rebirth marks the fourth film in the Jurassic World series and the seventh installment in the iconic Jurassic Park franchise. With a fresh storyline and a new cast, the movie looks poised to revive global interest in the dino-powered universe.
