It’s been nearly two years since acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli announced his ambitious biopic titled Made In India, chronicling the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, widely regarded as the Father of Indian Cinema. The film’s lead role has now been confirmed — Jr NTR, who previously collaborated with Rajamouli on the blockbuster RRR, will portray the legendary filmmaker.
Rajamouli shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), stating,
"When I first heard the narration, it moved me emotionally like nothing else. Making a biopic is tough in itself, but conceiving one about the FATHER OF INDIAN CINEMA is even more challenging. Our boys are ready and up for it..:) With immense pride, Presenting MADE IN INDIA."
Recently, AI-generated images of Jr NTR as Dadasaheb Phalke have gone viral, further fueling anticipation for the film. These images show Jr NTR sporting a khadi kurta, round glasses, and a beard — capturing the iconic look of the pioneer of Indian cinema.
The film, produced by Varun Gupta (Max Studios) and SS Karthikeya (Showing Business), is currently in the scripting stage, with the makers finalizing the story. Made In India promises to explore the birth and evolution of Indian cinema, marking a new genre for Jr NTR, who is known for his action-packed roles.
On the career front, Jr NTR was last seen in Devara: Part 1 alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Fans can also look forward to Devara: Part 2, with production and scripting scheduled for 2026.
