On December 13, 2025, at the Saturday Night's Main Event, WWE icon John Cena will professionally wrestle for the very last time signaling the end of his outstanding career. This 17-time world champion, who started his life in professional wrestling in 2002, has proclaimed he will not be taking any other matches after this retirement fight.
Cena made this announcement of parting during the Money in the Bank event 2024 and also took a full-on farewell tour that started at the Royal Rumble 2025, which was also WWE’s first premium live event of the year. The tour granted Cena with various milestones, one of which includes winning the Elimination Chamber and beating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 thus gaining his 17th world title. He maintained the title till SummerSlam 2025 and then lost it to Rhodes during the main event.
During the last months of his pro wrestling career, he wrestled against the biggest stars like Lesnar, Paul, and Zayn, and also took part in the main events of WWE's weekly shows SmackDown and Raw with Mysterio and Sheamus. In his last Raw he took on the Judgment Day with those two legends; he became a Grand Slam Champion during this tour, taking the Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio only to lose it back at Survivor Series, which also was his last appearance at a PPV.

On December 13, at the Saturday Night's Main Event, Cena will duel with Gunther in the match marking his retirement. By defeating LA Knight in the Last Time is Now finals, Gunther secured the opportunity to wrestle Cena. Gunther was stripped of the World Heavyweight Championship title by CM Punk during SummerSlam and had a great run in the tournament after he had previously beaten Goldberg in the latter's retirement match on July 12.
