The much-anticipated war drama Ikkis, featuring the late Dharmendra in a posthumous appearance and led by Agastya Nanda, made its theatrical debut on New Year’s Day. Based on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Lt Arun Khetarpal, the film faced stiff competition from Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, which continues to dominate theatres even in its fourth week.

Ikkis Box Office Collection – Day 1

According to industry estimates, Ikkis earned ₹7 crore net on its opening day. The film registered an overall occupancy of 31.94% across India. Morning shows opened slowly at 12.09%, but footfalls improved through the day. Afternoon shows recorded 35.29%, evening shows peaked at 46.77%, while night shows stood at 33.62%.

Ikkis vs Dhurandhar

Dhurandhar, now on Day 28, still proved to be a tough competitor at the box office when compared to Ikkis. Morning occupancy at 14.31% was rather small but it shot in the afternoon (48.54%) and evening (49.11%) to the point where it overtook Ikkis in all important time slots. Night shows also attracted 29.75% of the audience which was a stable situation.

In addition to revenues, Dhurandhar was also at the top in the number of screens and market presence, restricting Ikkis’ expansion in some areas.

Screen Count and Regional Performance

At the beginning of its cinematic release, Ikkis displayed an average screen presence, with Delhi NCR (632) and Mumbai (432) being the two regions that screened the highest number of shows. Next in line were the other notable markets with Ahmedabad (308 shows), Pune (175), and Hyderabad (133). Nonetheless, among the cities with the highest shows, Surat (6.50%) and Ahmedabad (14.25%) had extremely low occupancy.

Surprisingly, southern cities, for example, Chennai (32 shows) and Bengaluru (136 shows), still managed to have good occupancies because of their limited screenings.

While Ikkis had only 290 shows in Delhi NCR, 215 in Mumbai, plus a good number of screenings in Pune, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, Dhurandhar was surely the king on the circuit. It almost completed its run but still had a remarkable occupancy in Bengaluru (56.25%), Chennai (60%) and Kolkata (44.50%).

About Ikkis

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis tells the story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of India’s highest military honour, the Param Vir Chakra, in a heroic way. The movie also features the late veteran actor Asrani in one of his last roles and brings Jaideep Ahlawat and Deepak Dobriyal as main cast. It is a production of Maddock Films.

Ikkis, which had a slow but steady start, is up against the mighty Dhurandhar at the box office which still holds the attention of the public in the major centers.
