HIT 3, starring popular Telugu actor Nani, has drawn significant criticism after its digital premiere on Netflix, marking a rare instance of negative audience response for the actor’s projects in the non-theatrical market.
Nani, recognized as one of the most commercially viable actors from tier-two Telugu cinema, has maintained a consistent and growing presence in digital platforms post-pandemic. His earlier releases have typically topped streaming charts soon after release, but HIT 3’s reception has been markedly different.
The film, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, opened to a solid box office start but struggled to sustain momentum during the weekdays, failing to recoup its production costs. Despite Nani’s commendable performance and some well-received action sequences, critics and audiences alike view HIT 3 as the weakest installment in the HIT franchise.
Following the theatrical run, the film’s director faced online criticism, which intensified after the Netflix release. HIT 3 quickly rose to the top trending spot on the platform, yet the attention has been largely negative.
Nani, who also took on the role of producer for the project, reportedly secured substantial revenue from pre-release deals relative to the film’s budget.
