Today, September 2, 2025, is the 54th birthday of Telugu movie and political icon Pawan Kalyan. Social media is overflowing with birthday greetings, tributes, and posters, making the day nothing less than a festival for his fans. Pawan, affectionately known as PSPK and Powerstar, is respected for both his simplicity off-screen and his charisma on-screen. He never publicly celebrates his birthday because he prefers to keep the day private and work-oriented.

The Superstar's Journey

After making his acting debut in Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi, Pawan Kalyan went on to produce well-known films like Suswagatham and Gokulamlo Seeta. The 1998 romantic drama Tholi Prema, which received a great deal of praise, was the turning point in his career. His status as a major player in Telugu cinema was solidified by films like Khushi (2001), Badri, and Thammudu.

Pawan created his own enormous fan base after escaping the shadow of his brother and megastar Chiranjeevi. He was one of the most sought-after actors by the early 2000s, and he eventually became known as Tollywood's Powerstar.

From Hits to Returns

Despite its lacklustre box office performance, Pawan's 2003 film Johnny received accolades for its technical mastery. With films like Gudumba Shankar, Balu, Bangaram, Annavaram, Jalsa, and Puli, he evolved into an action hero over time.

Following a few disappointments, Pawan made a spectacular return with the hit films Attarintiki Daredi (2013) and Gabbar Singh (2012). His reputation as one of Tollywood's biggest crowd-pullers was cemented when both of his films turned into enormous money-spinners. He has a devoted following that spans generations and is still among the highest paid actors in Indian cinema today.

The leap into politics

In 2014, Pawan Kalyan started his own political party, the JanaSena Party (JSP). He first backed the Telugu Desam Party, but by 2019, he ran on his own. His perseverance paid off in 2024 when the JSP formed an alliance with the TDP and BJP, despite his failure at the time. JanaSena won all 21 MLA seats and two MP seats it ran for, and the coalition swept to victory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his achievement by saying, "Ye Pawan Nahi Aandhi Hai" (He is not a breeze; he is a storm). As the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh today, Pawan Kalyan has become a political force and a superstar.

At 54, Powerstar

Despite being away from films due to his political responsibilities, he is still the most popular person in the movie industry. The Powerstar legacy only gets stronger over time, as evidenced by his fans' continued fervent celebration of him.
