K-pop followers are mourning the death of Jang Hae-Young, a 45-year-old singer from the early 2000s boy band F-IV, who died after a long fight against cancer.

According to the South Korean media, Jang Hae-Young succumbed to the illness on October 6, 2025, after keeping it secret for several years and battling it solo. Spotv News was the first to announce the passing on October 11, and later it was confirmed by his fellow member Kim Hyun-Soo who posted a heartwarming message on one of the social media platforms.

Kim Hyun-Soo shared an old picture of Jang with the words, “Goodbye. Let’s sing together again when we meet in heaven.” His words struck a chord with the fans who were reminded of the group’s songs that were full of nostalgia and Jang’s friendly personality on stage.

Jang Hae-Young’s Path in Music

Prior to entering the K-pop world, Jang practiced Korean dance at the Korea National University of Arts. His entry into music was as part of the duo Kid in 1997, who became popular with their song Oh! Nanriya.

In 2002, Jang was widely recognized as one of the F-IV members, the group which included Woo Jung-Tae, Kim Hyun-Soo, and Seo Ji-Won. The band created hits like Girl and Ring and became one of the favorites along with the rise of K-pop worldwide.

After F-IV’s peak time, Jang decided to be solo in 2009, and his first single, Sorry for Being Ugly, portrayed the emotional depth and art maturity of Jang.

The F-IV members got together again for the EP titled Thank You in 2012 to commemorate their 10th wedding anniversary and express appreciation to their old fans. Jang also made an appearance on JTBC’s Two Yoo Project: Sugar Man in 2016, where he revealed that he was working as a freelance investment consultant while still chasing his music collaborations.

Jang Hae-Young’s artistic talent has been recognized by both the public and his peers, who have expressed their condolences through social media, acknowledging him as one of the players in the defining period of K-pop music.

We wish him eternal peace.
