Empuraan Movie Review: Mohanlal and Prithviraj’s film set to make waves despite mixed reviews

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial Empuraan, starring Mohanlal in the lead role, has finally hit theatres worldwide, generating massive buzz both in India and international markets. With its well-executed promotional campaign, the film is poised to break records at the box office, despite receiving mixed reviews.
In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, Prithviraj emphasized that Empuraan is more than just a visual spectacle. He said, “While the teaser and trailer may highlight the scale, visuals, and technical aspects, the film is, at its core, content-driven with a layered, coherent narrative.” Prithviraj assured fans that the depth of the story drives the film forward, and the impressive visuals are merely the surface of a much richer experience.
Following the success of Lucifer, Empuraan sees Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Indrajith reprising their roles. The movie also features a star-studded cast with Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney, and Suraj Venjaramoodu rounding out the ensemble.
The film has made history by becoming the first Malayalam movie to earn over Rs 80 crore worldwide on its opening day. The advance ticket sales have been equally impressive, with over 1 million tickets sold on BookMyShow alone.
Empuraan is written by Murali Gopy and produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas Pvt Ltd and Sree Gokulam Movies.
With strong box-office performance and continued buzz surrounding the film, Empuraan is set to dominate the cinemas in the coming days, even as it receives varied feedback from critics.
