Following a thorough worldwide search, McLaughlin was cast as Harry Potter in 2024. Recently, he talked about how strange it is to play the iconic role of J.K. Rowling.
The actor reminisced about his first time wearing the Hogwarts robes while promoting his movie Grow. "It was a bit surreal, to be honest, because I was always a huge Harry Potter fan when I was younger," McLaughlin told BBC News. I'm overjoyed to be able to play the role of my dreams.
The Wizarding World's New Era
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Dominic McLaughlin as the next Harry Potter were all formally unveiled by HBO on May 27, 2025. Fans are excitedly awaiting the series' anticipated 2027 premiere, as production began on July 14. Reimagining the entire saga for a new generation, HBO has confirmed that the show will run for at least ten years.

At just eleven years old, McLaughlin assumes a role that was previously associated with Daniel Radcliffe, ushering in a new era for the Wizarding World on screen. In his first movie, Grow, the actor also appears on screen alongside Nick Frost, who will portray Hagrid in the HBO version.
