Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 is slated for a global release on June 27, 2025, but in a surprising turn of events, the movie will not be released in India.

Why Sardaar Ji 3 Won’t Release in India?

The decision follows mounting pressure and backlash from Indian film associations over the film’s casting of Pakistani actors, especially Hania Aamir, amid rising cross-border tensions after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has strongly opposed the inclusion of Pakistani artists and is reportedly preparing to issue a formal ban on Diljit Dosanjh and the film’s producers within India. FWICE also urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to deny clearance for the film due to the presence of Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela.

As a result, the makers have opted to release the film exclusively in overseas markets, targeting Punjabi-speaking audiences globally.

Trailer Launch and Geo-Block in India

On June 22, Diljit released the official trailer of Sardaar Ji 3 via Instagram with the caption:

“Sardaar Ji 3 Releasing 27th June OVERSEAS Only. Fadh Lao Bhoond Dian Lattan!”

However, the trailer is geo-blocked on YouTube in India, displaying the message: “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.” Despite this, teaser clips and promotional songs remain accessible on Indian platforms.

Interestingly, while Hania Aamir is absent from the teaser, she plays a key role in the trailer, portraying a ghost hunter who joins Diljit’s character in exorcising spirits haunting a UK mansion.

Hania Aamir Faces Social Media Backlash

The controversy further escalated after Hania Aamir’s Instagram account was blocked in India post the Operation Sindoor counter-terror strike. She allegedly posted anti-India remarks, intensifying calls for a complete boycott of her work in Indian media.

Sardaar Ji 3 Plot and Cast

Sardaar Ji 3 continues the franchise’s mix of comedy, action, and romance, following Jaggi, played by Diljit, as he takes on a ghostbusting mission. The film also teases a love triangle involving Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa, both vying for Jaggi’s affection.

Confirmed Cast:

  • Diljit Dosanjh as Jaggi
  • Neeru Bajwa
  • Hania Aamir
  • Gulshan Grover
  • Manav Vij
  • Nasir Chinyoti

Behind the Scenes

Directed by Amar Hundal and produced by White Hill Studios and Story Time Productions, Sardaar Ji 3 is the third installment in the beloved Sardaar Ji franchise, following the successful releases in 2015 and 2016.

While Indian fans will miss the theatrical release, Sardaar Ji 3 is expected to garner strong box office traction in international markets with a thriving Punjabi diaspora.
