On August 14, 2025, Lokesh Kanagaraj's eagerly awaited action drama Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, will make its theatrical debut. The movie's pre-sales have been incredible despite its conflict with War 2; it sold over 12 lakh tickets on its first day and surpassed the ₹100 crore mark for its opening weekend.
As of 11:00 AM, Coolie had sold 12,46,828 tickets in India, bringing in ₹27.01 crore, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. With over 10 lakh tickets sold, the Tamil version accounted for the majority, followed by Telugu with one lakh. The movie brought in ₹11.97 crore in Tamil Nadu, ₹1.46 crore in Andhra Pradesh, ₹1.69 crore in Telangana, and ₹6.85 crore in Karnataka.
Overseas reservations total ₹60 crore, including ₹45 crore on the first day, while domestic pre-sales have already surpassed ₹50 crore for the first weekend. With ₹80 crore from the first day alone, the pre-sales for the opening weekend have already topped ₹110 crore, and the total is still growing.
Coolie is the first Tamil film to earn over $2 million in premiere pre-sales in the United States, setting a new record in the process. The industry is now keeping an eye on it to see if it can top the record for opening day set by Lokesh's previous film, Leo, which brought in ₹142.70 crore globally.
