Cannes 2025 Begins: Indian Stars Join Global Cinema Icons

The 78th Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday with moments that set the tone for the next twelve days of screenings and events.
Robert De Niro received the Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement from Leonardo DiCaprio, paused on stage and embraced DiCaprio as the audience rose in tribute.
Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia took her seat on the jury panel and offered brief remarks of thanks. Quentin Tarantino signaled the official start of the festival by dropping his microphone at the ceremony’s opening.
Model Bella Hadid appeared on the red carpet in a Saint Laurent gown by Anthony Vaccarello. Singer Mylène Farmer performed “Confession” in dedication to director David Lynch. Actor Urvashi Rautela arrived holding a parrot-shaped clutch valued at approximately Rs 468,000, complementing her structured gown in primary hues and matching tiara.
The festival runs through May 24. Alongside Kapadia, Indian attendees include Sharmila Tagore, Janhvi Kapoor, Karan Johar, Ishaan Khatter, Simi Grewal and Neeraj Gheywan.
