Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, starring Im Yoona and Lee Chae-Min, was one of Netflix's K-dramas most discussed in 2025. While the series was a breakout hit, many viewers thought its conclusion was not satisfactory — thus they were very hopeful for Season 2. Now, there is the writer of the original novel who officially teases not only a sequel but also even possible spinoffs.

Season 2? Yes, It’s Very Possible

The drama is a product of Park Kook-Jae’s novel Surviving as Yeonsangun’s Chef, which takes inspiration from the last days of King Yeonsangun of Joseon in 1504. The show, which was initially named The Tyrant’s Chef, became a phenomenon — it exceeded expectations by far compared to the little attention initially received by the web novel.

In an interview with Korean outlet Star News, author Park Kook-Jae stated the drama has rekindled the love for his original work and at the same time brought an end to the web novel’s obscurity.

He said:

"The web novel wasn’t a massive hit during serialization, but I’m glad the drama brought it back to the limelight."

Writer Confirms: Season 2 Structure Is Already Complete

A massive demand from fans for a sequel elicits from Park the following important update:

“I have many things to narrate in Season 2. The synopsis and basic structure are already done. The particulars are still in the process of development.”

Park also suggested that if Season 2 happens, the sequel of the novel, webtoon adaptation, and drama may all come together — creating a shared universe.

Spinoffs Are on the Table Too

The author hinted that the potential for various side stories in the original narrative to become spinoffs still exists. He drew attention to one particularly interesting mystery, that of the tyrant king ending up in the modern world, which could serve as a point of departure for a special side series.

He went on to say:

“If there’s a second season, I think the spinoff will be the beginning of the story — about how the Tyrant arrived in the modern era.”

Yoona Also Wants Season 2

The leading actress Yoona already stated her enthusiasm for the show’s reception as well as her desire to return.

In an interview with Allkpop, she stated:

“The ratings have been a surprise to me every week. I never thought the response would be so massive. I would love to keep going with Ji-Young’s story.”

Why Fans Want More

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty depicts the life of Yeon Ji-Young (Yoona), a chef trained in French cooking, who accidentally time-travels and finds herself in the royal kitchen of the tyrant king Yi-Heon (Lee Chae-Min), who happens to have a delicate palate for gourmet food.

The show quickly became a favorite for:

  • It spectacularly attractive cinematography
  • Masterly recreations of the traditional Korean cuisine
  • Excellent rapport of the leading actors
  • An enthralling mix of romance, comedy, culinary art, and historical fantasy

With its ending that raised more questions than it answered for the viewers, the call for a sequel has become even more persistent.

Also, the author has indicated that the framework of the story for Season 2 is already in place, hence the hopes for a re-entry into Ji-Young and King Yi-Heon’s world have never been so high.
