TVK leader Velumurugan has urged a ban on Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, citing indecent scenes that allegedly violate Tamil culture.
Controversy has erupted around Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9, hosted by actor Vijay Sethupathi, after Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) leader and MLA Velumurugan called for a ban on the show. The TVK leader alleged that the programme features “disgusting body movements and bedroom scenes,” which he claims violate Tamil culture and ethics.
Speaking at a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday, Velumurugan clarified that while he isn’t against entertainment shows, Bigg Boss Tamil 9 “destroys cultural values” and promotes indecent content for the sake of profit.
“The scriptwriters seem unconcerned about how this affects Tamil society. The show prioritises money over morals,” he stated.
According to Velumurugan, the show’s content includes scenes “that cannot be watched in the presence of family or children.” He argued that Vijay TV is airing “vulgar and low-class content” that should be immediately stopped.
The MLA also revealed that he has submitted an attention-seeking motion to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, Appavu, urging a discussion on the issue. If no action is taken, he warned that TVK will stage a mass protest at the Bigg Boss house and Vijay Television’s office, joined by “thousands of women.”
Meanwhile, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9, which premiered recently on Vijay TV, features contestants such as Dr Diwakar, VJ Paaru, Aurora Sinclair, Kani Thiru, Sabarinathan, Aadhirai, Ramya Joo, Gana Vinoth, Vikkals Vikram, and Nandhini R, among others.
The show has been a trending topic on social media ever since its launch, but this latest controversy may put the channel under scrutiny from both cultural groups and political leaders.
